No Baptism...Maybe Later!

Well this week didn't go as swell as I had hoped. I got a call a while after we ended our p-day last week that said that the baptism for Erica was off because she finally coughed up the fact that she is i guess what you'd call a "closet-smoker." She really is trying to quit and was doing pretty well, but just couldn't kick it entirely. So needless to say, we got to free up a few hours on Saturday, that we really didn't want to free up. Erica's new baptismal date is August 20th...so hopefully that will be the day! We also found out that Canada Post is going on strike so no mail or anything will be delivered until the strike is over. It has been a week and there is no end in sight, so don't worry about sending any letters or anything for the next little while. Besides that the week was pretty good. We taught James again, and he loved the last part of the Plan of Salvation. We had to move his baptismal date back to the 9th of July. He is very very excited to be baptized, and we are just as thrilled. It will be just a few days before Elder Wilde goes home. What a good send off, huh? Anyway, I guess that is about it this week. It has rained all day, every day, all week. Contacting was a big joke this week, because no one wanted to stop and talk in the rain. Hopefully I'll have tons of good things happen this week to make up for a pretty shabby week. Anyway, I love you all and hope you are all happy and healthy.
Holy Cow, I forgot to tell you about something awesome that happened this week. The other Elders in our district had a baptism this week, and I got to do the interview for her. She is from Ethiopia and she is the coolest lady ever.. Her husband was baptized this year and she has taken a whole year to finally get her answer. She was excited to be baptized, and I was excited to interview her. I was terrified as we started, but the spirit really came into the room and calmed things down and directed the questions. It is pretty cool how that works. Anyway, just thought I'd throw that in there.

  1. Elder Brown,

Do not be discouraged about Baptisms. Remember your calling is to teach the Gospel, only baptizing those who believe.

You cannot make people believe. They have their agency. All you can do is teach by the power of the Spirit. Then it is up to the people to accept it or reject it.

In some cases they might not be ready. In those cases, just remember you are planting seeds. Out of small things, great things will grow.

Be of good cheer. The # 1 most frequent command of the Lord in the New Testament was to have faith and be of good cheer.

    God bless you!
